It’s Icelandic National Day!

Today marks Icelandic National Day! Þjóðhátíðardagurinn celebrates the events of June 17th, 1944, when the Republic of Iceland was formally established and became independent from Denmark.

The holiday also marks the birthday of Jón Sigurðsson, who Icelandic residents widely consider to be the leader of Iceland’s independence movement. In honor of the occasion, we’re spotlighting the API Business, Computer Science & Engineering Program at Reykjavik University!

Study STEM concepts in a beautifully unique study abroad location

This API program focuses on STEM and engineering, with classes taught in English. Therefore you can comfortably learn everything from accounting to thermodynamics right in the heart of the city.

Because Reykjavík is the world’s northernmost capital city, you can expect a cold but beautifully unique experience! While studying abroad with API, you can feel confident in having all the resources you need available. Students live in apartments or guest houses with internet access. A nice bonus: student housing is very close to natural hot springs, delicious cuisine, and stunning views! Our on-site director speaks English and also knows plenty about the country as she is from Iceland. She’ll take you on excursions across the island, including a trip to see the Northern Lights!

An affordable program at a prestigious university

If you’ve been researching where to study abroad, you know that some locations are more expensive than others. Iceland is a very affordable place to live and study, and the cost of this program is on the lower end, making it a great option for students on a budget.

Founded in 1988, the original name of Reykjavík University was The Commercial College of Iceland. It is Iceland’s largest private university. It is known around the world for its sustainable energy programs. Today there are four schools: Business; Computer Science; Law; and Science and Engineering. RU has been fully bilingual in Icelandic and English since 2010 (although our API program classes are taught only in English).
