Soccer in Siracusa – API students go from fans to famous ~

Several API students were recently featured a local paper – the Giornale di Sicilia, while attending a soccer game in Syracuse, Italy.

API fans united at Nicola De Simone Stadium (on right)

Here’s the translation of the caption:

American Fans unite at the seats behind the goals: Stars & Stripes fans at the Nicola De Simone stadium. American girls (in the photo: Lily Rubino, Regina Scalise, Kayla Velez, Casey Yelton, Julia Gruhot, Maureen O’Sullivan, Tara Samartano, Katherine Foley) study at the Mediterranean Center for Arts and Sciences in Via Roma. They took seats behind the goals, got carried away by the “blue fans” by joining them in singing and clapping their hands. “A special afternoon- says the RD Joanna Rubacha- to spend at the stadium.

Another Syracuse soccer fan website praised the spirit of the API students, saying tongue-in-cheek that they should be an example to the “lazy” locals who spend their Sundays watching the games on T.V. instead of raucously cheering on their team at the stadium 😉

How cool! Go to a soccer game, become (almost) famous! 🙂
