Excursion to Lyon

This post is from our official student blogger, Sarah Nichols. Sarah is a Senior Economics (Accounting) and French major from the University of Alaska-Anchorage. She is currently spending the academic year in Grenoble, France.

On our latest API excursion, we spent the day in Lyon, France. Instead of only taking photos and writing about my trip I thought I would also film my day and make a video.

The video starts with me leaving my house at 8AM for the bus station. Of course, I had to stop and get a baguette and coffee for the road! We took a bus to Lyon which took about an hour and a half. Once we got to Lyon we left the bus station and got on the subway to take us to the center of Lyon where we saw the Equestrian statue of St. Louis  XIV. We continued to make our way across the bridge on the Saône River where you can see a shot of the Lyon Cathedral and the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fouvière.

We then walked through the streets of the St. Jean Quartier where we stopped to get lunch. After lunch, we continued to make our way to the tram that took us uphill to the breathtaking Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fouvière. In the video, you can see how beautiful it was to be inside the Basilica and how much detail went into creating it. Once you exit the Basilica we could see an amazing view of Lyon.

Our next visit was a short walk to the Gallo-Romain amphithéâtre which is now used for festivals and concerts. After walking back down to the St. Jean Quartier we stopped at Amornio’s for gelato and sat by the Saône River to enjoy the view. We then made our way back to the train station so trek back home to Grenoble. I’m already planning on going back to Lyon because there is too much to see in just one day!
