Thoughts from the road – Numbers game

By: Chelsea K., University Relations Coordinator, API Texas

(former API France/Rome/Syracuse Program Manager, and former API student in Grenoble, France: French Language & Culture Semester Program)

1 former API student turned API “road warrior” on the road for 1 week

3 states

5 cappuccinos

10 hotel towels

18 boxes of API promotional materials

77 “Study abroad means I can take classes in ANOTHER COUNTRY?” realizations

96 furrowed brows and muttered phrases ( “There are so many options!” “Maybe I should consider Latin America, too…”)

300+ students walking away with a catalog

300+ students staggering under the weight of so many study abroad options piled high in their arms

750 miles in a rental car fervently searching for a good radio station (definition of “good” varies by region)

500 smiles

347 eager questions (including, but not limited to, “What is study abroad?” “Can I use my financial aid?” “Where do you go?”)

62 squeals of delight

45 handshakes

10 grateful hugs from returned students

4 airplanes

2 amazing Peer Mentors

1 graceful face plant in the snow

At least 1 life altered…. (my own) and the possibility for x amount of lives to be changed by the revelation that studying abroad is more than a possibility, but an opportunity just waiting to be seized.

Warning – may cause dizziness! 😉 (Vampire Weekend “A-Punk”)
