Study Abroad with API in Quito, Ecuador- New Program!

“Ringed by volcanoes, Quito is nestled within the Andes Mountains and is strikingly beautiful… The quiteños, as the residents of Quito are called, are a pleasure to speak with and known for their slow, easy-to-understand Spanish. And the food…you won’t want to leave Ecuador without experiencing its llapingachos, fanesca, ceviche and organic chocolate, of course!” – Courtney Greene, API Senior V.P. for Student Services and Policy

API is thrilled to announce one of its latest programs- Quito, Ecuador!

Along with the Universidad San Francisco de Quito, API offers students the chance to complete a Spanish language course in conjunction with electives in Spanish or English with Ecuadorian students. Students are placed with host families in Quito for a truly immersive experience! Starting Spring 2016, this program will be offered for semester and academic year students. API also is announcing two new summer program options! Find out more information on those programs here.

API’s program in Quito also offers unique research and service learning opportunities. The university offers a 3 U.S. credit service-learning course that exposes students to social issues of Ecuador through diverse organizations in and around Quito. Offered both in Spanish or English, students complete 80 hours of service in addition to meeting in an academic setting once per week.

Another unique program feature is the Latitude Zero: Ecuador Research Initiative (LOERI) that allows 5 students per semester to conduct a research project in conjunction with a USFQ faculty member in various fields of study. This 3-credit independent study course takes place over a semester and is taken alongside other courses at the university.

Several daytrips and overnight excursions are also included in the program fee! Some exciting excursion destinations could include Papallacta Hot Springs, Tiputini, the Pacific Coast, Mindo Cloud Forest, among others. Our API resident directors also organize several cultural activities and events to help integrate students into the city life and Ecuadorian culture.
