Nursing students – want to study abroad this summer?

New Nursing Summer School at University College Dublin

API partner University College Dublin continues to develop innovative options for study abroad students. In addition to hands-on pre-medical and pre-nursing programs during the semester and a recently announced undergraduate research module, UCD is now introducing a nursing summer school.

The Dean and Head of UCD School of Nursing, Midwifery & Health Systems, Dr. Martin McNamara, and the School faculty are looking forward to welcoming students to their exciting and innovative Nursing Summer School. ” I know that students will benefit greatly by developing their knowledge of international health and nursing systems and their skills in research for nursing policy and practice”, said Dean McNamara. “Students will work with experienced researchers during their time at the Summer School, with some working on projects in one of our national research centres. This will give them a unique insight into contemporary issues in healthcare as well as into the skills needed to carry out cutting-edge research of international quality.”

The six-week program consists of a two-week study period (classroom work) and a four-week period of research activity under the guidance of an experienced researcher. The module “Comparative Health and Nursing Systems” is worth 5 ECTS (or 2.5 U.S. credits), while the module “Research for Nursing Practice” is worth 10 ECTS (or 5 U.S. credits).

Students may choose to complete their research in one of three areas:

  1. Nursing and Midwifery History
  2. Protection of Older Persons
  3. Professional Nursing Practice

The deadline for summer 2012 is April 15.

  1. This is such a great opportunity for nurses to see how nurses in other countries work

  2. Really, it is a great chance to share and experience new nursing skills. I am also from nurse aide profession and exactly knows how important is this. Nowadays, many institutes in states offer summer CNA programs, which are of limited hour’s trainings. Thanks for sharing this information.

  3. Really a great opportunity for nurses & CNA’s who want to work in abroad. Studying Abroad is a great way to gain international and relevant work experience, Nursing majors have the opportunity to study. Summer programs are a good option for students who are out of sequence or behind in their required curriculum, or are interested in study abroad opportunities that will not advance standing in their program of study. Thanks for this post.
