“The limited circle is pure.” When writing about his feelings towards social interaction, Franz Kafka didn’t mince words. His statement made it very clear that he preferred the company of one: himself. “In me, by myself, without human relationship, there are no visible lies” is how the reclusive German writer begins this statement of sentiment towards solitude. A sentiment only the like-minded seekers of solitude can understand – individuals better known as introverts. But just the same, Kafka can also be quoted as stating that “Anyone who keeps the ability to see beauty never grows old.”; showing that even the most introverted amongst us still have desires outside of their social detachment. And for many, a desire for beauty is a desire for adventure and travel!
In our efforts to help the introverted adventurer along, CE by API put together a list of our Top Programs for the Introverted Traveler as a part of our Travel Tips series.
Work in New Zealand
The Work in New Zealand program is designed to provide participants with a smooth arrival, orientation, and accommodations when you land. Also, the Huffington post ranks New Zealand as one of its Ten Places for Introverted Travelers.
Work in the Outback/Rural Australia
It doesn’t get more remote than this. If peace and quite are what you need to recharge, you’ll be hard-pressed to find anything but while working in rural Australia. Whether you elect to work on ranches, cattle/sheep stations, or farms deep in the Outback, you’re certainly in for an unforgettable experience that will teach you things you never dreamed, all while earning money in vast amounts of personal space!
Volunteer in Latin America
Because of their soft-spoken nature, introverts are commonly misconstrued as shy. However, it is this same soft-spoken, “shy” nature that has created some of our greatest philanthropist of recent history. If Eleanor Roosevelt, Rosa Parks, or Mahatma Gandhi sound like company you would like to keep, volunteering in Latin America could be the perfect introverted adventure for you.
