Favorite place you’ve visited:
Really tough question – my favorite city in the world is Tel Aviv, Israel. From my experience, it is unmatched in terms of vibrancy, nightlife, people, food, beach culture, etc. Otherwise, traveling around the Andaman Islands was one of the greatest times of my life, with its natural beauty unlike anything I’ve seen elsewhere.
I spent an entertaining and insightful month teaching primary aged children in Pokhara, Nepal. The school, and my accommodation, were located within a Tibetan Refugee Compound and, overall, it was an incredible experience. My favorite times in the classroom involved trying to get the kids to use their imaginations to invent abstract stories (in English, mostly) and, of course, introducing them to Aussie Rules.
There are several reasons why I chose to teach in Leon, Mexico. Besides an attempt to gain classroom experience before I start my teaching degree next year, I have previously relished opportunities that put me in challenging, culture-shock experiences. It brings out a positive side of me that often lays dormant when at home. Furthermore, Mexico, from the people to the landscape to the food, fascinates me and it’s an area of the world I would love to get to know better.
