Dia de los Muertos

A few weeks ago, Mexico celebrated Día de los Muertos, a festival that honors the dead. One of our teachers was there for the festivities and shared these photos of some of the colorful altars constructed in the plazas and streets of her host city, León.

Many of the altars are a combination of flowers and feathers, among other natural materials.
Here’s one that gives a tribute to lucha libre (wrestling) and the loteria (Mexican bingo), both icons of Mexican culture.

And here’s an action shot from a parade held as part of the celebration.
